This includes the time spent learning how to use a complex new device, the time spent on regular maintenance and cleaning, and, most critically, the time spent dealing with a product when it breaks. In an academic setting, critiques can be nerve-wracking, but in a professional environment, feedback is constant, and it comes from all directions—from creative directors, project managers, developers, and clients. As I look towards the future, the world of chart ideas is only getting more complex and exciting. It’s strange to think about it now, but I’m pretty sure that for the first eighteen years of my life, the entire universe of charts consisted of three, and only three, things.
